1856 - Johann Stupp, a German immigrant, founds his new company J. Stupp and Bro., Blacksmiths in St. Louis, Missouri.
1861 - Stupp helps to build seven ironclad gunboats for the Civil War under the auspices of James B. Eads.
1875 - Stupp loses business to unscrupulous lender.
1876 - Stupp opens Ornamental Iron and Zinc Works.
1882 - All three of Johann’s sons, George, Peter and Julius, are members of the firm and the name is changed to Stupp Bros. South St. Louis Iron Works.
1886 - Stupp is now the major bridge builder in St. Louis.
1901 - Kansas City Bridge Co. orders seven bridges from Stupp Bros. delivered to five different Kansas locations.
1903 - Stupp Bros. purchases 10 acres in South St. Louis to build a larger plant on Weber Road.
1904 - Stupp Bros. receives an award for their display at the St. Louis World’s Fair.
1915 - Johann Stupp dies at 88 years of age.
1918 - Stupp Bros. contributes to the war effort by fabricating parts for Liberty ships.
1927 - Stupp Bros. sells more than 1,000 tons of fabricated steel for construction of paper mills in the southern United States.
1928 - Erwin Stupp with others founds the Lafayette South Side Bank and Trust Co. which later merges with Lemay Ferry Bank in 1939 which becomes the present day Midwest BankCentre.
1929 - Stupp Bros. is chosen to supply the steel for the St. Louis Arena.
1933 - Stupp Bros. provides the steel for the construction of Kiel Auditorium.
1938 - Stupp Bros. fashions the electronic scoreboard and eight floodlight towers for Sportsman’s Park enabling night baseball.
1941 - Responding to a call for help from the Navy Bureau of Ships, Stupp Bros. enters a venture which builds 176 Landing Craft Transports.
1944 - Jefferson Barracks Bridge is completed by Stupp and partners.
1949 - Stupp Bros. completes a 796-mile natural gas pipeline from northwest Texas to Illinois.
1952 - Stupp joins in a partnership and opens a pipe mill in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
1956 - Stupp Bros. celebrates its 100th anniversary.
1960 - Stupp’s major projects include the Missouri River bridge at Rocheport, Missouri, a construction trestle for the Yanhee dam in Thailand and a major construction expansion for Granite City Steel Co.
1967 - Stupp purchases 105 acres in the Baton Rouge area to expand the pipe company.
1974 - As part of the construction of a refinery Stupp ships 900 tons of fabricated steel to Indonesia.
1978 - Stupp fabricates 7,388 tons of steel for a high rise building for the First National Bank in St. Louis.
1982 - An unusual contract from NASA to design and build two straddle-carrier transporters comes the Stupp Bros. way. These solid-fuel carriers were essential to the “moon” shot and also a key element in the Pentagon’s plan to protect MX multiple-warhead missiles from attack. Stupp designed the carrying structures for the Department of Defense.
1983 - Stupp Bros. provides 3,266 tons of fabricated steel for the Adam’s Mark Hotel.
1984 - Stupp Bros. provides steel for the Metropolitan Square Building - a 42 story, 597-foot skyscraper that fills a full block in downtown St. Louis.
1991 - The company adopts “S” Corporation status. A new holding company is named Stupp Bros., Inc., Stupp Corporation, and Builders Engineering are divisions of the new company which also retains majority ownership of the Lemay Bank and Trust Co.
1993 - Stupp Bros., Inc. creates a new company named Bayou Coating L.L.C. and constructs a new facility adjacent to the Stupp Corporation plant in Baton Rouge. 51% of Hammert’s Iron Works stock is purchased.
1998 - Weber Road plant is closed. A new 80-acre site is selected in Bowling Green, Kentucky for a bridge girder fabrication facility. The new facility allows Stupp to produce girders at a much lower cost. Stupp Bros. Bridge and Iron changes its name to Stupp Bridge Co.
2000 - Midwest BankCentre is expanded.
2003 - Mannesmann Line Pipe Sales Company is formed.
2004 - 100% of Hammert’s Iron Works is acquired.
2006 - Stupp Bros. celebrates its 150th anniversary.
